TMI or not? Honestly, I was past the point of caring when I shot this video. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My earliest memories of talking about what it's like to practice when you're on your period was when one of my first flute teachers mentioned that she can hardly play the flute when she was on hers. I think I was probably in a lot of pain when I walked into one of my lessons, and my mom offered to delicately explain that I was on my period and was having a rough time. A lot of girls might be mortified by that, but I was actually really relieved. I was in so much pain that I was past the point of caring.
I think that's a symptom of my periods. XD I just don't care about anything anymore.
I felt that since my channel is all about being real about what it's like to be a classical musician, it would be oddly appropriate to open up about my period and how I deal with it as a flutist when I have to practice. I hope this video encourages others out there who have to deal with the same thing and gives some ideas on how to go about playing your instrument at an acceptable level when you're not feeling your best.
Quick disclaimer though: If you're REALLY feeling so unwell that you can hardly get out of bed, DON'T PLAY THE FLUTE. Rest and take your time to recover. You'll bounce back a lot more quickly than if you were to try to slave away on the flute during your recovery.
Well, that's it for now. Happy practicing, everyone, and stay healthy!
