When I made my "Oh, I quit the flute when I was 14" video, I mentioned that if you guys wanted to hear more about what it's really like to be a professional musician, you could ask, and I would answer! Well... a lot of you asked, so here's my answer!
Becoming a professional musician was not at all what I expected it to be, but I have come to discover that I like what I have now more than what I had ever imagined. Musicians often struggle with the question of what it means to "stand our" or be "original", especially if you're a classical musician and primarily play music written by dead people that lots of other people have already mastered and put forth their own interpretations. Are there really more interpretations to be had? Are there really more ways to be original?
The answer is yes, surprisingly--by the simple fact that you're you, and no one else can think and act like you. Sure, you may share similar theories and interpretations as others, but you have your own perspective about everything.
All this was in the back of my mind while making this video... I should probably just make another video about this topic in the future. :P But anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this one and stay tuned for next week! :)
