Holy crap, I wasn't expecting this to be such a workout! This is the 3rd Doppler piece I've ever worked on, and I wasn't expecting it to be that much more difficult than the Hungarian Pastoral Fantasy and Fantasy on a Theme of Beethoven.
I thought it was interesting that it's so often used in competitions, but I'm not sure why I didn't think much of it when I first discovered that. Whoops.
I experienced a bit of "practice exhaustion" in this one, where your brain basically stops working at the end of the session. You basically learn a bunch of things and try to put it all together when you're wrapping up... but that's before your brain has had time to rest, process what it's learned, and recover. So it feels like a giant push to remember everything you learned as you're playing through it, and sometimes your brain just kind of shuts down in some parts that it perceives as "easier". The problem is, not all those parts are actually easier!
The next practice session on this will probably be similar, actually, all the way until I learn the entire piece. I hope you guys are on board with watching me learn the whole thing. It might take a while, since I really only upload one "Practice with Me" per month to make room for other videos, but I think it will be a really interesting project. :)
