I feel like this topic just keeps on giving. I'm discovering so much about myself that I really wish I had discovered in music school!! It would have made my life so much easier.
But then again, I don't blame anyone for not figuring this out. After all, it IS pretty weird. I'm a musician who can't remember pitches and tends to turn off their ear when playing? Then why am I playing music??
I realized it's just a different way of experiencing music. It's like I'm "left-handed" in the music world. I'm realizing while the majority of musicians tend to be ear-based (for obvious reasons, lol), there's still a sizeable percentage of us who are sight-based instead. We all play the same music, but we just execute it differently. I think that's super cool!
It's been fun figuring out what my students are and teaching them ways to practice that will enhance their learning and make them stronger players. So satisfying!!
Let me know what you guys are! Are you sight-based or ear-based, or a little mix of both?
