My boyfriend Jon and I are heading out for a weekend getaway trip this weekend, so he suggested that I make a quick announcement video that I'm on vacation, and that would be that. I initially agreed.
I think that's when my mind started to relax. I realized that I suddenly had little to do for the rest of the week. I finally had some time to practice!
So I picked up my flute.
And of course, that's exactly when inspiration struck me.
I remembered that I had played with the idea of "Practice with Me!" videos, especially with the craziness that "Get Ready with Me" videos seem to enjoy in the beauty world. I didn't want to make a boring practice video where you guys are just watching me thump out rhythms, hum to myself, and drill sections over and over again. I really wanted to show you guys what's going on in my head.
But wait a second, it was already Thursday afternoon by the time I thought of this. The sun was going down. Lighting was going to be horrible. I had no makeup on. If I wanted to film this video, I wouldn't have time to put on a full face (usually takes 30-45 minutes) before I'd get too hungry for dinner.
And then it dawned on me. Why bother making a "Practice with Me" video if it wasn't going to portray what I really look like when I practice? I practice in a room with horrible top-down lighting, and I never have makeup on. This is real, and this is me.
So I just busted out my camera and filmed it. It was amazing how fluid the whole filming process was and how easily the words came to me. I quite enjoy how the video turned out, and I really hope it helps other people who are trying to figure out what they can do during their practice sessions besides just drilling. :)
